Reimagining Green Living with Waste Wood: Hsinchu Plant’s Role in Forest Recycling and Sustainable Consumption
SDGs
The Hsinchu Plant is committed to supporting a green economy and environmental sustainability by aligning with “SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production”. Since 2024, the plant has actively contributed to a local forest recycling initiative. As part of this effort, all petrochemical cleaning products in its restrooms and pantries have been replaced with eco-friendly hand soaps and dishwashing liquids made from wood vinegar. This natural ingredient is extracted from waste wood and trimmed branches collected from schoolyards and parks and then processed via carbonization. The goal is to achieve full utilization of forestry waste in everyday life, adding value to local forestry resources while preventing waste wood from being incinerated, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing adverse environmental impacts.

To deepen employees' understanding of forest recycling, the plant hosted the “Woodcraft Master – One-Day Workshop” on August 17 and 31. These workshops combined environmental education with hands-on woodworking activities, where participants crafted small furniture pieces from waste wood. Through this experience, employees learned the principles of forest recycling and the sustainable practice of resource reuse. The event emphasized responsible consumption and production while fostering greater recognition of environmental sustainability among employees. These efforts support Wistron’s 2050 sustainability vision to achieve a “Nature Positive” impact.
From promoting wood vinegar cleaning products to advocating for waste wood reuse, the Hsinchu Plant has laid a solid foundation for a green economy and environmental sustainability. Looking ahead, the plant will continue to drive resource recycling and use innovative practices to create a sustainable future where humanity and nature coexist in harmony.
