Building a Green Ark: Bringing Sustainability to Life at Wistron

As you walk through Wistron’s Global Headquarters in Zhubei, amid the familiar office environment and green landscapes, you may notice a distinctive group of plants quietly taking root and flourishing within the Zhubei AI Park. More than just part of the campus scenery, these plants symbolize Wistron’s commitment to bringing sustainability closer to everyday life and to helping protect Taiwan’s biodiversity.

To advance its commitment to nature conservation and biodiversity, Wistron has partnered with the Hsinchu Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, to launch the “Green Ark: Sustainability for All” Threatened Plant Restoration Project. Through this initiative, existing green spaces on campus are being transformed into a conservation site that integrates ecological restoration, environmental education, and employee engagement. By embedding sustainability into the workplace, Wistron is creating opportunities for employees to connect with nature as part of their daily experience.

The project introduces native and conservation-significant threatened plant species, including Chrysanthemum lavandulifolium (Fisch. ex Trautv.) Makino, Cirsium lineare (Thunb.) Sch.Bip., and Echinops grijsii Hance, along with other representative native species. Guided by the principle of “local provenance, local conservation,” the project employs ex situ conservation practices to preserve valuable genetic resources. A multi-layered planting design further enhances ecological functions by creating habitats and food sources for wildlife, improving biodiversity and environmental resilience across the campus. Through these efforts, Wistron aims to build a “Green Ark” that serves as a refuge for threatened species and a bridge connecting people with nature.

More than a plant restoration project, the initiative also serves as a living environmental education platform. Whether walking during a break, participating in company activities, or simply enjoying the campus environment, employees can learn about these rare plants and the conservation stories behind them. By making sustainability visible and accessible in everyday surroundings, Wistron hopes to deepen employees’ understanding of biodiversity and inspire greater environmental awareness and action.

The planting event marks the official launch of the “Green Ark: Sustainability for All” project. Each seedling planted signifies not only the start of a restoration effort but also a shared commitment by Wistron and its employees to protect and restore nature. Looking ahead, Wistron will continue to monitor ecological outcomes and collaborate with government agencies, schools, and local communities. Over time, the site is expected to become a model corporate hub for biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration, demonstrating how technology, people, and nature can thrive together in harmony.
