Business Weekly recently released its 'Top 100 Carbon Competitiveness' list, based on carbon emissions data and revenue information disclosed by companies over the past three years, as well as the feedback from 194 survey responses. After meticulous screening from nearly a thousand listed companies, the top 100 were selected, representing high-quality enterprises that maintain profitability while prioritizing sustainability. This year, Wistron not only made it to the list for two consecutive years but also stood out with an impressive carbon emission reduction rate of -30% over the past three years, claiming the top spot in carbon reduction.
Wistron's sustainability office's V.P., Sylvia Chiou, was invited to speak at the Business Weekly 2023 "Carbon Competitiveness Summit," sharing insights on how carbon has become an innovative driving force for Wistron. She emphasized that Wistron has declared its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and using 100% green energy, while also promoting digitization and AI applications. Regarding carbon reduction in the supply chain, Wistron actively engages in initiatives to assist suppliers in transitioning to low-carbon operations. This includes establishing carbon reduction projects in four major areas: air conditioning, compressed air, production energy consumption, and lighting electricity usage, and assisting suppliers in developing specific carbon reduction plans.

In order to internalize carbon reduction actions as a competitive advantage, Wistron established the 'Decarbonization Pillar' in 2022 as a dedicated unit within the organization, committed to promoting three major carbon reduction strategies, including: (1) increasing the proportion of renewable energy, (2) promoting energy-saving measures, and (3) assessing carbon regulatory risks. This demonstrates a firm determination towards achieving the carbon neutrality goal by 2030.
Through digital transformation, optimizing the sustainable supply chain to accelerate carbon reduction
Wistron's biggest carbon reduction challenge lies in Scope 3 emissions, accounting for 97% of its overall carbon footprint, with suppliers contributing to a staggering 76%. To meet the demand for real-time and precise supply chain management, digital transformation has become indispensable. Wistron not only extensively adopts AIOT technologies such as smart meters to optimize energy management but also utilizes artificial intelligence for data analysis and prediction to accurately assess the potential and feasibility of carbon reduction.
Simultaneously, it establishes a digital management system and a knowledge-sharing platform to provide a channel for data collection, analysis, transparent sharing, and feedback for supply chain management personnel.
Wistron actively participates in the Ministry of Economic Affairs' program, collaborating with suppliers to execute carbon reduction projects and assisting them in achieving specific carbon reduction goals. Through the establishment of various platforms and mechanisms, Wistron's collaboration with suppliers becomes even tighter, jointly moving towards the vision of net-zero transformation.
