Wistron Malaysia Strengthens Emergency Preparedness and Resilience to Protect Employees and the Community

Safety is a fundamental pillar of stable operations and sustainable business development. Wistron Malaysia (WMY) is proud to announce the successful completion of its annual emergency response drills for both day-shift and night-shift employees on September 4 and 5, 2025. Through highly realistic simulations involving multiple emergency scenarios, the exercises comprehensively tested and strengthened the site's emergency preparedness capabilities, demonstrating WMY’s strong commitment to employee safety, public safety, and operational resilience.
The drills incorporated a range of high-risk, complex scenarios, including labor disputes, chemical spills, fire incidents, full-building evacuations, search and rescue operations, and medical emergencies. These scenarios were designed to rigorously evaluate emergency notification procedures, response mechanisms, and cross-functional coordination effectiveness. Among them, a simulated labor strike was a key focus area. Public order during the exercise was maintained with the support of the Royal Malaysia Police (Bandar Sultan Suleiman and North Klang districts), while the Light Strike Force (LSF) provided additional assistance to ensure that the simulation was conducted in a safe and controlled environment.
Both drill sessions successfully carried out a full-site evacuation involving employees, suppliers, contractors, and visitors. All personnel followed established procedures and proceeded to designated assembly points, where attendance verification was completed according to standard roll-call protocols. The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Port Klang) observed and assessed evacuation routes and firefighting response procedures throughout the exercise, providing professional recommendations for continuous improvement. In addition, WMY’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted live demonstrations of fire extinguisher operation and on-site triage procedures, enhancing employees’ practical emergency response skills and medical preparedness during the critical early stages of an incident.
Through scenario-based and hands-on training, the drills effectively validated the site's evacuation routes, communication procedures, and multi-agency coordination mechanisms. As a result, overall response efficiency was significantly improved, emergency response times were reduced, and potential risks of injury and property loss were minimized. Employees also gained greater confidence and familiarity with self-rescue, mutual assistance, and initial emergency response procedures, further embedding a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.
Beyond strengthening internal safety management, the drills also reflected WMY’s commitment to protecting the surrounding community. Through close collaboration with law enforcement and firefighting authorities, WMY’s emergency response framework is better positioned to serve as a critical line of defense during major incidents, supporting community safety, enhancing regional disaster resilience, and fostering public confidence in industrial safety management.
From a sustainability perspective, the drills directly support several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By strengthening first-aid and triage capabilities, WMY contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. By safeguarding employee welfare and ensuring business continuity, the company advances SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Enhanced disaster preparedness and public safety initiatives align with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Furthermore, collaboration among multiple agencies demonstrates strong governance and institutional effectiveness in support of SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, while also advancing SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collective efforts to strengthen societal resilience against risks and emergencies.
The successful completion of the two emergency response drill sessions in 2025 once again demonstrates Wistron Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to safety management and resilience building. The lessons learned and best practices identified during the exercises will be incorporated into future training programs, operational procedure enhancements, and cross-functional collaboration initiatives. Through continuous improvement, WMY remains dedicated to strengthening its emergency response capabilities and building an even more robust safety framework for its employees, the surrounding community, and its operational environment.
