For Our Sustainable Future, For Our Planet, Wistron Commits to Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of information and communications products, Wistron Corporation has officially signed a letter of commitment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for working toward the ambitious climate targets, which aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Through the commitment, within two years Wistron will submit greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets assessed based on the latest climate science deemed necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement ― limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

In response to the trend of sustainability transformation and the material issues of concern to the communities, under the vision of "Sustainability Through Innovation," Wistron has gradually realized concepts such as low-carbon manufacturing and circular economy in the value chain, and has adopted six strategies: sustainable supply base, green product, recycling, decarbonization, people with purpose, and labor welfare to fulfill the mission of “Trusted Innovation Partner for Technology, Sustainability and Better Lives.” Simon Lin, Chairman & Chief Strategy Officer of Wistron, says: ”Wistron balances the interests of multiple stakeholders to pursue sustainability issues. We implement a comprehensive and compassionate assessment and analyze outcomes from the viewpoint of other parties to identify a compromise solution that benefits everyone.”

Wistron believes that taking actions to combat climate change benefits everyone. As a corporate citizen Wistron has been committed to reducing its carbon footprint for years. In support of carbon reduction targets in the IPCC's Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C, Wistron followed the recommendations of the SBTi, setting 2016 as the baseline year and publicly disclosed short and long-term absolute GHG reduction goals. Compared to the baseline year, Wistron already achieved 53% carbon reduction rate in 2021. According to the guidelines of SBTi, Wistron will reset the baseline year to better reflect the expansion of global operations in order to move towards next global milestone of halving emissions before 2030.
