Collaborative Efforts for a Greener Future: Wistron's Hsinchu Site Honored with Excellence in Carbon Reduction Award

SDGs

The Hsinchu site actively implementing climate action by setting absolute greenhouse gas reduction targets in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, demonstrating our resolve to address climate change. To promote organization-wide carbon reduction, we are undertaking three major actions:

1.    Low-carbon intelligent manufacturing:
In pursuit translated content of low-carbon manufacturing, the Hsinchu site has actively initiated a diverse range of energy-saving projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Key measures include the adoption of high-efficiency chillers and air compressors, as well as the implementation of low-temperature soldering and multilayer manufacturing technologies in production processes to effectively reduce energy consumption. Additionally, we have integrated emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop a prototype smart factory. This integration has improved quality, reduced production hours, and minimized equipment operation time, leading to lower carbon emissions. Compared to 2019, we have achieved a 36% reduction in the carbon emission intensity of production capacity and a 26.8% reduction in the carbon emission intensity relative to revenue.

2.    Sustainable Supply Chain:
(1)    Collaborate with suppliers to advance carbon reduction and circular economy projects. We have established a two-year carbon reduction plan with eight energy-intensive suppliers. Through energy-saving diagnostics, action plan development, and effectiveness verification, we aim to achieve a carbon reduction target of 8,000 tons by 2025.
(2)    Promote 'zero waste' and resource recycling by collaborating with suppliers to recycle and reuse reusable jigs, packaging materials, and pallets. Concurrently, we have strengthened the waste classification and recycling operations within the site, achieving a 13% reduction in incineration rates and a 12% increase in resource conversion rates.

3.    Renewable energy:
The Hsinchu site  is actively introducing green electricity, and has signed a 20-year long-term contract with a green power supplier in combination with the headquarters strategy, which is expected to account for 80% of the total electricity consumption by 2025 and reach 100% by 2030.
The Hsinchu site is actively adopting green electricity, in alignment with headquarters' strategy, and has signed a 20-year long-term contract with a green power supplier. It is anticipated that green electricity will constitute 80% of the site's total electricity consumption by 2025 and reach 100% by 2030.

We look forward to receiving the 2023 'Science Park Carbon Reduction Excellence Award' from the National Science and Technology Council, which will inspire our colleagues at the Hsinchu site to continue working together on the path of low carbon and zero waste, ultimately establishing a sustainable benchmark factory.
