Wistron 2023 Sustainability Report Highlights
Wistron, hereinafter referred to as "the Company", upholds the principles of integrity, transparency, and the pursuit of excellence, actively responding to the expectations of stakeholders in face of emerging trends and challenges. In our newly released 2023 Sustainability Report, we detailed our sustainable goals, actions, and performance in four major areas: environmental protection (E), social inclusion (S), corporate governance (G), and innovation value (I), striving to achieve our corporate vision of "Sustainability through Innovation."
Embracing a Net-Zero Future
Over the past year, Wistron has achieved several key milestones. We have set Science-Based Targets (SBT) for carbon reduction and received official approval. We have committed to achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2030 and net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2050. Simultaneously, we are implementing an Improved Forest Management (IFM) project to enhance resilience against climate risks using Nature-based Solutions (NbS). In 2023, we increased our green energy proportion to 66.47% and continue to expand renewable energy usage across our business operations in Taiwan and abroad. We are also introducing digital platforms and AI tools for carbon management, gradually realizing a low-carbon transition.
Fostering an Inclusive Workplace
Wistron continues to build a culture of happiness and inclusiveness in the workplace to unite employees and boost productivity. We have issued a "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy," setting long-term goals for 2030 and establishing four concrete implementation paths: creating a DEI-friendly work environment, planning DEI training and development programs, promoting Employee Resource Groups (ERG), and advocating DEI core values to suppliers. Our first ERG, Women in Wistron (WIW), empowers female employees to pursue excellence in their careers. Alongside this, we have launched multiple global action plans to enhance employee well-being and committed over NT$300 million to various social engagement projects, creating positive impacts. In 2023, our global IDL turnover rate dropped by 30.5% compared to the previous year, and employee engagement significantly improved.
Strengthening Corporate Resilience
Corporate governance is the cornerstone of sustainable development. To incentivize senior executives, outstanding professional talents, and all employees to value long-term comprehensive performance, we have linked the goals of our six major sustainability strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) of significant sustainability issues with the short- and long-term incentive compensation of the President & CEO, senior executives, and heads of business units. We have established performance indicators for sustainable development to ensure that sustainability is integrated into the company's performance. Beyond our own operations, we actively collaborate with suppliers to implement sustainable supply chain strategies, promoting three major action plans: (1) supplier management system, (2) supplier knowledge sharing, and (3) advancing sustainable supply chain carbon reduction and net-zero, in collaboration with business partners to build a net-zero ecosystem for the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
Accelerating Innovative Transformation
Wistron is committed to the research and development of cutting-edge technologies, with R&D expenses in 2023 accounting for a 10% increase in revenue compared to 2022, and the number of green patents increasing by 26.5% over the previous year. From the green design concept at the design and development stage, and the use of environmentally friendly materials, to obtaining international product certifications, the Company adheres to the core principle of "innovative breakthroughs" to create innovative products that meet customer expectations. Additionally, we are collaborating with external partners to establish a lithium battery recycling line that covers consumer electronics, electric vehicle battery modules, and scrap materials generated during battery production. This system is expected to complement existing direct recycling production lines, creating an integrated recycling network and leading the trend in the circular economy.
Receiving Universal Recognition
Over the years, our sustainability efforts have been widely recognized domestically and internationally, demonstrating that we are on the right track towards pursuing excellence and sustainable operations.
