【Environmental Protection】 Setting Science-Based Carbon Reduction Goals Towards 2050 Net Zero
In response to the global net-zero transformation trend, Wistron's science-based carbon reduction targets (SBT) received official approval from SBTi in 2024. Wistron commits to achieving operational carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050. In executing its carbon reduction strategy, Wistron established a dedicated decarbonization organization to integrate global factories and relevant departments, promoting related projects through increasing the proportion of green electricity, enhancing energy efficiency, and setting internal carbon pricing. Last year, Wistron successfully reached a milestone of 66.47% global green electricity usage, with a target of 72.5% this year, and continues to strive towards 100% green electricity application. In terms of energy innovation, AI and IoT technologies have been applied to the smart management of air conditioning and air compression in manufacturing plants, saving 41% of electricity per unit. These energy-saving efforts were recognized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) last year, being featured as a case study in The Climate Drive, with the opportunity to present at COP28. Beyond operational scope, Wistron is expanding climate action to Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM) activities. In 2024, Wistron officially collaborates with professional partners to launch an improved forest management (IFM) project, leveraging Nature-based Solutions (NBS) to address the climate crisis and create a symbiotic success for humanity and the environment through sustainable forest development plans.
【Social Inclusion】 Creating a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace Culture
Wistron values universal principles of diversity and equality, aiming to foster a healthy and positive work culture that inspires employees to enhance overall performance. In 2023, Wistron introduced its “Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy,” and this year established an Employee Resource Group (ERG): Women in Wistron (WIW). Through company resources, WIW promotes topic understanding, experience sharing, and mutual support among colleagues by organizing activities, training, and establishing networking opportunities, enabling female employees to fully develop their potential and pursue career growth, achieving a win-win situation for both the company and employees. We set specific targets related to women in technology, aiming for 27% female supervisors, 24% female STEM positions, and 40% female employees by 2030, reflecting Wistron's steadfast commitment to supporting and promoting women's development in the technology field.
【Corporate Governance】 Collaborating with Supply Chain Partners to Create a Net Zero ICT Industry Ecosystem
Achieving net-zero goals requires collaboration with upstream and downstream business partners to realize the vision of low-carbon value chain transformation. Wistron participates in the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs' Information Industry supply chain carbon reduction promotion plan, inviting 30 suppliers to join the WiZero (Wistron Zero Carbon Emission) low-carbon intelligent manufacturing platform and low-carbon supply chain plan. By conducting carbon emission inventories, sharing carbon reduction knowledge, and providing technical energy-saving improvement expert guidance, we assist supply chain partners in jointly reaching net-zero targets. As of October this year, the cumulative carbon reductions amounted to 9,449 tons, already surpassing the project target of 8,000 tons ahead of schedule.
In the face of a challenging future, Wistron will continue to strive to be a leader for sustainability through innovation in the global ICT industry chain, working together with our stakeholders to fulfill our steadfast commitment to sustainable development.
