Building the Future Factory with Innovative Technology – Hsinchu Plant Wins Gartner Asia-Pacific Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Award

The demand for AI servers from clients at our Hsinchu Plant has surged exponentially since the debut of Chat GPT in 2023, leading to production needs exceeding 2 to 3 times its original capacity. Facing the challenge that traditional methods of plant construction and production line expansion could not immediately address such overwhelming demand, the Hsinchu Plant adopted innovative strategies by integrating digital twin technology and advanced techniques. This approach effectively enhanced production efficiency and redefined the model of a modern manufacturing factory.
The Hsinchu Plant leveraged the NVIDIA Omniverse platform along with the DGX A100 to train AI models for new factory planning and setup. The technological applications include:
1. CloudXR and Tablets for On-Site Collaboration: Engineers could view and discuss future factory models in real-time at the construction site.
2. NVIDIA Modulus for Temperature Prediction: Simulated the design and temperature distribution within the Run-In room.
3. Omniverse and Flexsim for Optimization: Identified production bottlenecks and optimized facility layout to maximize efficiency.
These advancements not only shortened the construction timeline from five months to just 2.5 months but also achieved a 10% reduction in carbon emissions from the energy-intensive RUN-IN process. Additionally, the factory's ramp-up quality improved significantly with a 40% reduction in defect rates, while productivity increased by 51%, successfully meeting the client’s delivery targets. These achievements have laid a solid foundation for the Hsinchu Plant to support global market demands.
With the success of the project titled "Innovation: Building the Future Factory with Digital Twins", the Hsinchu Plant participated in Gartner’s inaugural “Asia-Pacific Eye on Innovation Awards for Advanced Manufacturing 2024”. Amid strong competition, it stood out and received international recognition from the judges, becoming the only Taiwan-based manufacturer to win this prestigious award. This acknowledgment underscores the Hsinchu Plant’s leadership in smart manufacturing and its pioneering efforts in harnessing cutting-edge technologies.
Looking ahead, the Hsinchu Plant will continue to uphold its core value of "Innovative Breakthroughs," striving to strengthen its global competitiveness and deliver more efficient and innovative manufacturing solutions to clients worldwide.
