Planting of trees and bushes in Menin - Together for Nature and Community

SDGs

Since 2016, Wistron Czech (WCZ) has been building a strong tradition of supporting the environment and local communities through the planting of trees and shrubs. What began in cooperation with the “Sázíme stromy” initiative (“We Plant Trees”) evolved in 2023 into a more active approach that engages employees and their families. By giving them the opportunity to propose locations for these activities, WCZ strengthened both participation and personal attachment to each project.

This approach led to close collaboration with the municipalities of Měnín and Nemojany, demonstrating how a company can create meaningful, long-term impact at the local level. In village Měnín, over three years WCZ contributed to the development of a biocorridor and a windbreak that are key for improving biodiversity, protecting soil, and supporting water retention in the landscape. The project culminated on October 18th, 2025, when 91 participants from among employees, their families and children took part in the final planting event. Together they planted 110 trees and 330 shrubs, successfully completing the project. Beyond the environmental benefits, the event had an important educational dimension, helping participants especially children to understand the value of nature and sustainable practices. The day ended with a communal campfire, reinforcing a sense of community and shared achievement.

In Nemojany, WCZ carried out a complementary initiative on April 5th, 2025 creating a new rest area along a cycling path. Employees together with children planted seven mature trees and 320 shrubs, enhancing both the ecological and social value of the area. Under the guidance of local representatives and a professional gardener, the planting was carried out with long-term sustainability in mind. The activity not only improved the local landscape but also created a welcoming space for residents and visitors. Together, these projects illustrate how WCZ makes a tangible impact in local communities by connecting people, nature, and shared responsibility. The collaboration with Měnín and Nemojany shows that environmental initiatives can also strengthen relationships among employees, their families, and local residents.

Importantly, these efforts are not one-off events but part of an ongoing commitment. Although the biocorridor in Měnín has been successfully completed, it represents a long-term investment in the health of the local ecosystem. WCZ plans to continue working with these communities and to expand similar initiatives to other locations. This year, a new planting site was approved in the village of Opatovice, where the restoration of a forested area will take place through the planting of 1,500 trees.
Each tree planted is therefore more than just a step toward a greener landscape; it is a symbol of cooperation, continuity, and a shared commitment to a better future.
