Planting Seeds of Love: Achieving Harmony for Society and the Environment

SDGs

Each year, over 600 infants and young children in Taiwan are placed in orphanages due to challenging family circumstances. These children, often from fragile backgrounds, require nutritious meals to support their healthy development.

To address this need, the 2024 Hsinchu Plant Family Day centered on the themes of “SDG3: Good Health and Well-being”, “SDG10: Reduced Inequalities”, “SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production”, and “SDG15: Life on Land”. As part of its ESG sustainability initiatives, the event introduced the “Love for Waiting Children Donation Drive.” The program encouraged employees and their families to make charitable contributions that would enable the purchase of high-quality produce from local Taiwanese farmers. The donated fresh fruits and vegetables were then provided to orphanages, simultaneously supporting sustainable agriculture by reducing food miles, lowering carbon emissions, and preserving biodiversity in Taiwan’s farmland. This approach married social engagement with environmental preservation.

On the event day, all the charitable donations and the  vegetable and fruit funds raised were donated to the “Taiwan Waiting Angels Social Welfare Association”, which used the funds to procure fresh, locally grown produce for orphanages across Taiwan. By incorporating sustainable agricultural goods into daily meals, the initiative not only enhanced the nutritional intake of children but also promoted the development of sustainable farming practices.

This charitable donation effort exemplified how social participation and environmental protection can work in harmony. By supporting children in need and fostering sustainable agriculture, the activity successfully achieved a win-win outcome for both society and the environment.
