Orphanage Visit, EHS At Heart
SDGs
On 24th August 2024, Wistron Malaysia visited the Good Samaritan Home, a local orphanage dedicated to caring for vulnerable children. This visit was part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing safe, healthy, and supportive environments for children and fostering community spirit.
The day began with an engaging ice-breaking session, allowing committees and children to connect through fun activities and setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day. The core of the program focused on educational lessons vital for children’s safety, health, and environment. The first session covered fire emergency awareness, where children learned critical safety steps, including evacuation procedures and practical skills such as using fire extinguishers. Hands-on practice empowered the children with confidence to act swiftly and correctly in emergencies, potentially saving lives.

The second lesson addressed dengue prevention, a significant health concern in tropical countries. Children and committees worked together to identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, such as blocked drains and stagnant water. This activity not only educated the children about disease prevention but also involved them directly in maintaining a cleaner environment and healthier community.
Beyond education, the program made tangible safety improvements by providing exit lights and installing smoke detectors and fire blankets at the orphanage, ensuring the safety of all residents in case of emergencies. Committees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to give back, and the children enjoyed receiving goodies from Wistron Malaysia, ending the day on a joyful note.
This initiative had a meaningful impact which is equipping children with essential safety knowledge, improving their living environment, and strengthening community bonds. It exemplifies how corporate social responsibility can foster a safer, healthier, and more caring society. Through continuous efforts like this, Wistron Malaysia aims to inspire community resilience and promote sustainable development, aligning with SDGs focused Goal 3: Good Health and well-being, Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, in order to move towards a better future.
